WDA International Coaching Course In Melbourne

The World Dodgeball Association in association with Dodgeball Federation Australia, will deliver a Level 2 International coaching course in Melbourne, following the 2015 Asian Dodgeball Championships. 080

The course is being delivered by Chris Riley from Manchester, England – a World Class tutor and mentor in the worldwide Dodgeball fraternity.

Course Overview:  The course is designed for people who wish enhance grassroots Dodgeball by coaching in schools, colleges, universities and community clubs as apart of the legacy to inspire future generations to participate in Dodgeball. In addition, the course covers high performance technical modules for those that wish to coach national and international squads.

This certificate will be a prerequisite for aspiring coaching who wish to work for the DFA at local schools, run clinics and take charge of national team squads.

Course Date: Wednesday, October 7 (6:00pm – 10:30pm)

Venue: Bulleen Basketball Stadium – 33 Sheahans Road, Bulleen.

Price: The cost of the course is $100, which includes official World Dodgeball Association Certification. In comparison to other equivalent international sports governing body courses / workshops, the price per candidate is the best value for money course within the sports industry.

Here is a brief outline of what the course covers:

1. Introduction – Chris will introduce himself, give a brief background of the WDA organisation and what it is trying to achieve. He will also brief the candidates on what will happen throughout the course.

2. The Court And Rules – Chris will give a brief explanation of the rules of dodgeball and show candidates the court dimensions.

3. MODULE 1 CATCHING – Chris will give a brief demonstration of the skills required to catch successfully. He will then show the candidates examples of catching drills that can be used to enhance the skill. Candidates will go away in groups of 3 or 4 to design their own drills, with a progression. One of the groups will referee a conditioned game based around catching. This will give them the experience of running/refereeing a game.

4. MODULE 2 DODGING – Chris will give a brief demonstration of the skills required to dodge successfully. He will then show the candidates examples of catching drills that can be used to enhance the skill. Candidates will go away in groups of 3 or 4 to design their own drills, with a progression. One of the groups will referee a conditioned game based around catching. This will give them the experience of running/refereeing a game.

5. MODULE 3 THROWING – Chris will give a brief demonstration of the skills required to throw successfully. He will then show the candidates examples of catching drills that can be used to enhance the skill. Candidates will go away in groups of 3 or 4 to design their own drills, with a progression. One of the groups will referee a conditioned game based around catching. This will give them the experience of running/refereeing a game.

6. MODULE 4 BLOCKING – Chris will give a brief demonstration of the skills required to block successfully. He will then show the candidates examples of catching drills that can be used to enhance the skill. Candidates will go away in groups of 3 or 4 to design their own drills, followed by a progression. One of the groups will referee a conditioned game based around catching. This will give them the experience of running/refereeing a game.

7. Chris will show candidates examples of ‘alternative’ Dodgeball games. These games are designed to create a fun environment for players. They are also very inclusive.

8. MODULE 5 ASSESSMENT – Candidates will be split into groups of the 3/4. Each group will be given a skill to work with. They will be required to plan and deliver a 25 minute session based around one of the 4 skills we covered earlier in the day. Sessions will require.
