DFA Dodgeroos Trial Tournaments

maytournaAs recently announced, Dodgeball Federation Australia (DFA) is hosting the 2015 Asian Dodgeball Championships from September 26 – 27 in Melbourne, Australia.

Through this Asian continental tournament, three nations in the Men’s and Women’s categories will qualify for the World Dodgeball Association 2016 Manchester World Cup in March, 2016. In preparation for the 2015 Asian Championships, the DFA will select upto 30 players in the Men’s, Women’s and Mixed categories to represent our Australian national teams, the Dodgeroos.

The DFA will host four tournaments – DFA Dodgeball Championships – where all dodgeballers from across the country will be given ample opportunity to put their best foot forward to represent the Dodgeroos.

Following the trial tournaments, the Australian provisional squads will be selected. From here, one final tournament will be held for players selected in the extended Australian squads.

Interstate players outside Victoria are welcome and encouraged to trial in as many tournaments as possible. Given Australia’s large geographical landscape, we understand this can be difficult. We have designed the second tournament over the Queen’s Birthday Long Weekend as a high priority for interstate players to attend – assuming players from across the country can only attend the single tournament.

Once the final tournament is staged with the extended Australian teams, a Dodgeroos squad will be announced for the Asian Dodgeball Championships.

To be eligible for selection, players must hold an Australian citizenship. The DFA expects a strong commitment from players. While a variety of skill-sets and attributes will play an important role in the selection process, on-court conduct and sportsmanship are integral for Dodgeroo aspirants.

At this stage, the format of the DFA Dodgeball Championships are Mixed. The format and structure of the tournaments could alter in due process.
